Mona is a Bitch
Saves my effort in forwarding, since you hate the whole world to know, I'll expose your failure as a good educator to the whole world who drops by my blog to read.
Lasalle-SIA is the worst school in Singapore because of U!
Dear Lin Shi,
Although we appreciate that you may have taken the initiative to source for musicians, Mr Lindsay & I have already discussed the matter formally and according to an earlier email to you the date for your assessment still stands.
He mentioned to me that the proficiency level of the performers does NOT affect the overall grading of a performance.
It is your composition & writing that will be assessed.
Any players who may be performing your piece will need to follow your scheduled exam time. Otherwise, please find other alternatives, e.g., a DVD recording, sound recording, hiring other players, etc.
Although we appreciate Mr Monteiro being willing to be part of the exam panel, the programme has not asked him formally. Please do not run the music programme by asking Mr Monteiro or anyone if they would like to be on the exam panel.
This would be the concern of the programme & NOT the student.
I do not wish that emails be going to & fro so it would be good if you actually channel your energy in organising your concert according to the scheduled exam timetable.
Again, I reiterate, you can submit a recording of your Jazz work to the examiners prior to exam date for viewing. The learning outcomes remain the same.
My advice is to start recording the band soon.
A live performance does not mean student scheduling his/her own exam time & then telling the programme what to do.
The programme therefore stands by its decision.
Please adhere to the exam time given you unless you wish to miss your exam.
Regards,
Miss Lim

Dear Miss Mona,
I'm re-sending the mail to you since the previous one failed to get through.
I would appreciate a formal reply to the mail.
Thank you very much.

Dear Miss Mona,
I am writing to you to request for a change of date for my recital.
According to the Regulations, Requirements and Assessment Policy for Instrumental Studies (Composition), all level 2 and 3 students are required to hold a live performance recital to fulfil the course assessment requirement.
I require the following jazz talents for my recital:
· 4 Trumpet Players
· 2 Alto Saxophone Players
· 2 Tenor Saxophone Players
· 1 Baritone Saxophone Player
· 4 Trombone Players
· 1 Piano Player
· 1 Guitarist
· 1 Bass Guitarist
· 1 Drummer
However, the School can only provide me with the following student musicians pursuing Performing Studies:
· 1 Trumpet Player (Foundation Year ˆ Classical)
· 2 Alto Saxophone Players (1 from Foundation Year ˆ Jazz, 1 from Level 1 ˆ Jazz)
· 1 Trombone Player (Foundation Year ˆ Classical)
· 1 Piano Player (Level 2 ˆ Jazz)
· 1 Guitarist (Level 2 ˆ Jazz)
· 1 Bass Guitarist (Level 1 ˆ Jazz)
· 1 Drummer (Level 2 ˆ Jazz)
I have approached the student performers for their time and assistance in performing my composition. However most of them have their own academic commitments in preparing for their end of year recitals or graduating recitals. It is difficult to arrange a common time for group rehearsals.
Furthermore, it is not easy for musicians from a classical background to adapt and pick up the jazz playing style within a short period of time.
Mr. Lindsay has informed all students majoring in composition that the proficiency level of the performers does affect the overall grading of a performance.
As such, I have taken the initiative to source for my own group of jazz music performers out of college. The Thomson Jazz Band is a group of experienced jazz musicians. They have played my pieces and are willing to help me complete my 30 minute recital. However as they are all working adults, it is not possible for them to perform together as a band on weekdays. They are however available on Saturday evening, 28th April 2007.
I am aware that the performance date assigned to me is on Monday, 30th April 2007. I understand the rationale for reserving Saturday recital performances for students facing extraordinary circumstances. Please understand that there is no deliberate attempt to flaunt the college guidelines.
Professor Jeremy Monteiro's mentioned that he would be more than willing to be part of the examiner panel with another full time lecturer from school and an external examiner to grade me based on the live performance by Thomson Jazz Band on 28th April.
I apologise for the inconvenience caused and I hope that you can accommodate my request.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Lee Lin Shi
