  Seminar after feelings...

Attended the Professor Edward Ho's seminar on "Introduction to Western History"

All the knowledge wasn't really worth $70 bucks for the 3hrs, plus, he made a huge mistake to say he KNOWS jazz and happily played Frank Sinatra as demo.

Frank Sinatra is NOT JAZZ! Study the timeline down Jazz history, the idea of knowing Jazz and playing Sinatra only shows his lack of knowledge in this beautiful subject, sort of made me lose some respect for someone of a professor level yet not sticking to what he knows best is Western Classical History.

Joplin is not jazz, not Gershwin either... The main golden era and development of Jazz is in it's blues, modal, bop stuff. Even bossa nova is not strictly Jazz Jazz, it is more like an evolution form of Jazz influence that's all.

I was telling Belinda and she was shocked too, I mean we're talking about a PhD person, not any tom dick or harry, and to claim to know Jazz yet perform Sinatra is like eh...... are u sure u're a professor kind of statement.

Would only hope people stop saying they know Jazz when they don't even understand the historical influence, theoritical application, harmony in it's music and classify pop as Jazz. It makes me wonder why people like to do that, as though claiming they do jazz, composer jazz or sing jazz makes them a level higher than people who do pop. Seriously, it's still best not to flunt ignorance of knowledge in Jazz to the pros... Christy Smith etc will be laughing their asses off saying the most sarcatistic stuff right into your face!
