King of Latin - Eddie Palmieri!

Backblog of Sunday... Last Day of This yrs Mosaic 08.

What a pity, review from the press was bad with his concert. Sigh, those reviewers are certainly not musically trained. Rubbish.

The crowd was enthusiatic and enjoying, though the culture of Latin was to dance, the crowd was more into appreciating the music than dancing to it and not listen to the music.

Sack those reviewers, hire me. LOL

For the very good reason that Eddie himself acknowledge me as one with a good sharp ear and understanding of what he played during the master class and he asked, "So do you play the piano?"

"Yes, I do" I replied

"That was a good question asked. One day, I want to hear you play" He answered, quite shockly indeed, perhaps not expecting a Singaporean to be well versed in music.

It's great honour, acknowledging me is one thing, but that only proves my teachers have me well. Haa, three cheers to Belinda and Jeremy! The Dick Grove method is certainly better compared to Berklee!

What to do? Those people attended the master class asked stupid questions like "How do you play a Son Montuno over Giant Steps changes. Duhz, it's like, com'on la, Jazz is not about John Coltrane. Bloodly hell fucker might as well ask how to play over Kind of Blue changes. Duhz, dumb. Go understand the development of Latin Jazz history before you embarass Singapore as a tiny red dot w/o music talents. It's you people who make us, the musicians who have passion and embrace it as a daily part of our lives look bad. humph!

My sweet bean plant opened his own blogged finally but only to his own viewing pleasure, and mine of cos! =)

Latin piano is such a huge subject, it's form, harmony, arrangement and sound, sigh, sometimes, I do feel I need more than 24 hours a day.

Next time, perhaps all masterclasses should have pre-requistes like only people with a diploma in music is able to attend. duhz, I wanted to ask so many things, bout his arrangements, where he gets his idea from, how does he incorporate his BeBop or Post Bop Jazz voicings into the style. How he thinks, how he is inspired to compose, What did he go through to achieve an internal 3:2 & 2:3 clave rhythm yet improvised in swing and poly rhythms.

Sobs... you know, it's sad to be a musician in this island... not more to say a music teacher. There're market spoilers who're not devoted to this art, yet armed with a Grade 8, go teach, charge low and make us the real professionals look bad. ugh...

Why isn't there a Union to set a market standard to the fees? =( it's bad when they keep cancelling lessons and thinks you can live off air for the month. haiz..

Anyways, I love Eddie, may not be understanding even 50% of what he's doing, but at least I understand some...
